BUTOH in CLOSE UPButoh is a form of Japanese dance theatre that encompasses a diverse range of activities, techniques and motivations for dance, performance, or movement. This expressive and fascinating form of modern dance appeared in Japan post-World War II in 1959. Founders are Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno. The naked and white painted body forms an important element in Butoh.
